PAINTING AT SUNDOWN

Wouter and I went painting at sundown, we had less than an hour to do the job. With good focus everything turned out fine. Painting en pleinair is so great.

Watercolour Friends

The first two are from photos and the last one was from life. They are about 4" by 6".

Lefty life drawing

Just as an experiment I did this drawing with my left hand.

Life drawing session

We had a double model at yesterdays life drawing session. Within the same amount of time, 5 or 10 minute poses, as we normally draw one model, one becomes extra focused and concentrated. The models were very expressive. Great session!

Here's another en pleinair study in watermixable oils. You can see parts of an old bunker.

What a day to capture light.

Life drawings

I can't stress enough the importance of life drawing... It makes you understand shapes, anatomy, gestures, it is good for your drawing skills, it's a place to experiment freely, and also it's a lot of fun!

What a wonderful september day in Holland. Farmers are ploughing the land and scents and colors are intense. My favorite season. Oils, 2 hours.

Today I took my bike and spent 2,5 hours just looking around for the right color combinations and atmosphere. I ended up in Westmaas where I painted this in two hours with watermixable oils. I'm happy with the tonals and the atmosphere, they turned out just the way I wanted them. When you look at it in greytones you can probably see how subtile the transistions are. That, in combination with the right color contrasts, sets the mood.
